so where can i get this incredible work of art?

fortunately, there are a number of resources available to most people. ayashi no ceres is not currently being published in english. it is available in japanese, of course, as well as in chinese, and (from what i hear) korean and french as well, and most of the manga has been translated into english on an amateur basis. it was initially published in the bi-weekly shoujo comics manga periodical, but now that the series is finished, the only way to get the manga is to buy the quarterly compilation volumes, called tankoubon. there are 14 volumes, the final one being published in march of 2000. these you can also pick up from your local import retailer, or perhaps order direct from shogakukan. back issues of shokomi are not available from order, so the only way to find them is usually on auction sites like ebay and yahoo! japan auctions.

the american rights to ayashi no ceres are owned by viz communications. the american release of the ayashi no ceres anime and manga are tentatively scheduled for sometime in the first quarter of 2001. i'll have more information on that as it becomes available.

for those of you who want the original japanese manga, you're probably wondering about these 'import retailers' i keep babbling about? well, many cities have an international district of one sort or another--commonly (and often erroneously) referred to as their 'chinatown'--and these districts often have retailers which specialize in importing japanese or other asian merchandise. ours here in seattle is called uwajimaya, and they have an outlet upstairs which is part of a large chain of bookstores known as kinokuniya (their japanese site is much more informative if you can read it). kinokuniya has many locations in the united states, and many abroad as well. another good source (aside from the dealer's room at an anime convention) is sasuga bookstore. you can order plenty of manga online. i generally don't recommend online auctions like ebay for manga that is currently in print, since you can usually get it much cheaper and with less hassle by ordering through a retailer or, if you're lucky, going to your local japanese bookstore. ordering typically takes about three weeks but can sometimes take a few months. they're usually pretty good about looking things up, but it may help if you have the isbn numbers for the volumes you want. shogakukan has them online in their database here, here, and here, but i'll repeat them just in case the link information becomes outdated:

since all of the information about ayashi no ceres anime merchandise on studio pierrot's page is in japanese, i've translated it here.
